Hospice Presentation

Hospice Presentation

Recently our executive director and co-founder, Ana Pallés Yelen visited a hospice cohort team operating under We Honor Our Veterans Program to discuss the mission of Healing Warriors Program.

She thanked the hospice team for their hard work and dedication to our service members and echoed the sentiments from Optum Health Care Chaplain Dale Eudy that they are very likely the last to thank our service members for their service.

The following summarizes her presentation:

We collect data pre- and post treatment, which we use as part of the client record and fold into the treatment plan – we want to provide care that is most effective for the client. Our practitioner team works a multi-prong approach and will shift if they find that they aren’t achieving optimum results with a particular strategy. This has been very successful for some of our most compromised clients. We have clients who are extremely acute and we work closely with their doctors, many of whom send them to our clinic to support their therapy. We are integrative in our care strategy not alternative.

We include the Service Member’s Partners, Parents, Siblings and Children over 18 in our entitlement of service. We do this because we know that we can exponentially assist the Service Member if we also assist their immediate family. And military service often runs in families. While working with older veterans, there may be other service members in the extended family who would be entitled to services based on their own military service and for whom this would be very helpful.

Quality of life is critical. We provide education and training for self-care and are working on some internship programs for wellness lifestyle. Our primary goal is to ratchet down the pain and the post traumatic stress symptoms – usually anxiety and sleep issues. Once we get that out of the way, we work with our clients on self-help so that they can restore their sense of self-empowerment over how they feel day to day. For our service members, who tend to be so self-sufficient, service-oriented and accomplished, discovering their path back to who they are is key. HWP simply offers a way to make their individual path more visible by alleviating the obstacle and “noise” of pain and PTS.

EFT Training – January 9th

Using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Presented by Bonnie Thompson

When: Thursday, January 9, 2014, 6:30 – 8:00 pm

Where: Fort Collins Vet Center
702 W. Drake Road,
Fort Collins, CO 80526
(970) 221-5176

Learn to use Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as Tapping, to relieve pain, anxiety, PTSD symptoms and more. Open to Veterans, Active Duty Service Members, and their family members at no charge.

EFT is an easy to use, effective self care tool that helps relieve pain, stress, and anxiety. It involves tapping on acupuncture points on the head and body and is easy to learn and do on your own.

In this interactive presentation, Bonnie Thompson will provide information about EFT and teach you how to do it. Please join us to learn and practice the basics of EFT in a supportive group environment.

The following is from the Psychology Today website:

One of the most passionate advocates of EFT is Ken Self of Boston, a veteran of 11 years in the Marine Corps who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and two more tours in Iraq. He had three issues that were crippling him emotionally, including being forced to shoot a child. “That came back to me night after night for years,” he told me recently. Before he started the therapy, he rated his anxiety levels as 8 on a scale of 10, but after tapping them out, they were reduced to 0, he said. “After tapping, you still have the emotion, but it doesn’t own you,” he said. “It’s not overwhelming. It’s just a memory.”

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping

Beginning in January 2014, Healing Warriors Program will offer monthly self help classes for service members and their families.  One of the self care training sessions we are offering is on Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as Tapping.  Over the years, we have seen a number of people find relief and real healing by learning how to do this simple technique.  We invite you to sign up for our newsletter or check our website often to find out about our upcoming programs.

Instructors are donating their time in gratitude to our Service members so the classes are offered at no charge.
