Party time at the beach! Don’t forget your flip flops and to ‘put the lime in the coconut!’

Operation Salute: Soldier’s Paradise Beach Party is going to be a whale of a good time! Great food, open bar, games, prizes, a rockin’ silent auction, live music and Mr. Steffan Tubbs from KOA NewsRadio. Want a little R&R? Kick off your shoes, dig your toes into the sand, and watch the boats in the water as you enjoy the music and sip cold drinks. This will be a fabulous night in the “tropics” enjoying a summer evening on the water at The Island, Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club.

Steffan Tubbs
Steffan Tubbs

Our keynote speaker for the evening will be Mr.Steffan Tubbs, Co-Host, Colorado's Morning News on KOA NewsRadio. Steffan is a four-time winner of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for national reporting and has covered major events including the 9/11 recovery from Ground Zero, the Oklahoma city bombing as well as Super Bowls and World Series coverage during his 25 years in the news industry in Los Angeles, New York and Denver.

His experiences have instilled in him a passion for bringing awareness to the issues our service members face with Post Traumatic Stress and the tragedy of veteran suicides. Steffan makes meaningful documentary films, including his latest film, ACRONYM, for which he is the Executive Producer and Director. ACRONYM features extensive interviews with U.S. veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf Wars I and II, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. For some WWII veterans, they are only now dealing with their PTSD - some 70 years after serving. These are stories that must be shared and ACRONYM is an incredibly touching portrayal of life with PTSD.

Steffan is also a published author, his first book Life, Liberty and Resilience - the story of a segregated WWII Iwo Jima veteran who grew up in rural Mississippi was turned into his first film of the same title released in 2013. Steffan’s second film Droughtland, about the devastating conditions faced by ranchers and farmers in southern Colorado, was released to critical acclaim. His topic at Operation Salute will be the importance of recognizing veterans, military suicides, and the making of his film ACRONYM.

Robert Wideman, Special Guest Speaker

Unexpected Prisoner, Robert Wideman

We are also very excited to have Mr.Robert Wideman speak at Operation Salute. Robert is a published author and speaks professionally about his 6 years as a POW during the Vietnam War.  Robert flew 134 missions in Vietnam between 1967-1973, and he retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. Robert is above all a family man, dedicated to his sons and his six grandchildren, to whom he dedicated his newly released book, Unexpected Prisoner: Memoir of a Vietnam POW.  Robert’s story connects us to all our service members, past and present, and both the challenges and courage our men and women in uniform face each day. Read more of Robert's story here.

Thank You to Our Contributors

Thcopy-hwp-logo-tme Healing Warriors Program clinic in Fort Collins cares for veterans of all eras: WWII, Korean Conflict and Vietnam era veterans along with individuals who served more recently in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as active duty servicemen and women. Too often our troops leave active duty service and are expected to immediately reintegrate into civilian life without regard to the impact of repetitive deployments, trauma and pain .

The reality is, many of our service members return home suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and numerous types of chronic pain. In our integrative care clinic, HWP offers non-narcotic treatment options too rarely provided with standard care. We offer Healing Touch therapy, used in a ground-breaking PTS protocol developed by the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine and part of a 2 year research study with Camp Pendleton combat marines. Craniosacral therapy with current research underway with Traumatic Brain Injuries and pain management.  Acupuncture with research evidence of significant pain and Post Traumatic Stress relief.  All therapies provide relief from the depression, anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain all too familiar to veterans. Clients, who each receive three complimentary sessions at the clinic, are encouraged to try the different modalities to see what treatment will be most therapeutic for their unique needs.
